Judges 1:1 – 2:5
Uncompromising Faithfulness Brings Triumph (1:1-20)
Israel started well in their campaign to drive out the other inhabitants by seeking the Lord and following Him. The Lord called Judah to take the lead. The Lord was with Judah and they successfully drove out the other inhabitants (vv. 4, 8, 10, 17, 18, 20).
The Point: God’s people experience His power and blessing when they walk in uncompromising faithfulness.
However, Israel was starting to drift in their commitment to God in this mission of driving out the other inhabitants. This is hinted at in v.19 “The Lord was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had chariots fitted with iron.”
