Judges 2:6 – 3:6
From Knowing to Forgetting: When Experience Is Not Passed On (Judges 2:6–10)
Judges 2 presents to us a sobering truth: one generation can follow God and the very next generation can forget Him. They were right there in the Promised Land, and yet, they did not know God, meaning they did not have a personal experience with God.
The Question “Is my faith personal or merely inherited?” is important because the key lesson of the passage is this: Personal Experience of God Produces Unwavering Commitment. Without a personal experience of God, we could easily forget (forsake) God. Israel inherited the land but they did not pursue the God who gave it. And slowly, quietly,
they forgot Him. This inevitably leads to their worshipping other gods.
